What kind of yarn am I? Turns out I'm mohair. Makes me sound alright, but I still can't help thinking I might be a bit scratchy and hard to care for.

Yes, my dog Ajax is indeed named after Ajax the Golden Dog. At that size and color, I thought it fit him perfectly. I loved those stories as a kid!

I found that I appreciated them just as much as an adult reading them to my littles. The book is a great slice of life that doesn't exist any more. The descriptions of aboriginal culture, her visit to Ayers Rock, and her dangerous hand dug cave were all parts that I found gripping in a completely different way than when I was a child, when I read it as an adult.
I wanted to have a dog like Ajax so badly then! Now I am married to my own true love who is allergic to dogs. My daughter is pretty allergic, too. We have one little, hairless dog, but I don't think there is a Golden Dog in my future! So I'll admire your Ajax from where I don't have to deal with the dander.
